I’ve been frustrated with the way my hair looks and feels naturally since I was a teenager. While I have random days where my hair dries in this perfectly wavy, body-filled, non-frizzy soft way, for the most part, it has a dry frizzy look to it that no amount of anti-frizz products can make better.

As a result, I’m a pro with a flat iron. I started using one on a semi-regular basis when I was in high school, and now almost every time I wash my hair—which is about two or three times a week—I straighten it after it dries.

When I got the chance to review the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron, I was excited. From the reviews I read, it seemed it could straighten my hair quickly without causing damage.

BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron

Best for: Thin hair types

Uses: Straightening and smoothing strands

Price: Retails around $150

About the brand: BaByliss PRO is an electrical hair care products company that has been around for 50 years. BaBylissPRO products are used by professional stylists.

About My Hair: Wavy and frizz-prone

While my hair can be a bit unruly when I let it dry naturally, the fact that I keep it shoulder-length and not too thick means it’s relatively easy to straighten. From start to finish, it’s usually a ten-minute process: I put half of it up and straighten the bottom part, and then I proceed to finish the top.

That being said, I’m always looking to make this process a little faster, and there are very small segments of my hair that can be tough to straighten. Plus, my hair can sometimes end up with a very flat, frizzy look on certain days—and I hoped that the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron could remedy this problem.

The Look: Sleek

The BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron has a very sleek look to it. As promised, it’s very long and thin, and the metallic blue color is a nice touch.

Unfortunately, it showed up at my door wrapped in a lot of plastic. While I hope the retailers did this to protect the product, as someone who is always trying to use less plastic, I’m hyper-aware of the packaging my products show up in. Long story short, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the super-plasticky packaging.

The Feel: Light and easy to use

The BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron is a lot lighter than the straightener I use on a more regular basis, and I was immediately a fan of the thin factor. I have these very small sections of my hair near my ears that are very hard to straighten, and because the straightener I usually use is thicker, I had given up because I was constantly burning my ears.

Because the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron is so thin, I’m finally able to straighten those annoying sections. This is a huge win for me!

The Results: Straight, soft, smooth hair

The BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron isn’t perfect: I find that because it’s so thin, some sections of my hair take longer to straighten than they used to. I can only straighten my hair quickly if it’s set to the highest setting, and it’s more expensive than a lot of flat irons on the market.

All this to say: It’s still a great, high-quality tool to straighten your hair with. The half-inch plates let me get closer to my scalp than I can with other straighteners, and the fact that it’s so lightweight means my hands don’t get tired. My hair is also noticeably softer after using it than it is with my other straightener, which makes me think I’m doing less damage to it,

The Value: This is an expensive heat styling tool

Check out Amazon or your local beauty store, and you’ll see a lot of $20 hair straighteners. In other words, at $150, the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron is not an inexpensive heat styling tool—but if you’re someone like me who straightens their hair regularly and wants optimal results without the damage, going for a high-quality tool like this may be worth the higher price tag.

Similar Products: The thin, lightweight nature of this straightener makes it stand out

I’ve used a lot of flat irons in my life, and while the inexpensive ones work in a pinch, they generally make my hair look flat and lifeless, are probably causing a lot of damage, and take way too long to use.

T3 Lucea One-Inch Professional Straightening & Styling Iron ($170): Before trying the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron, I was using the T3 Lucea One-Inch Professional Straightening & Styling Iron. Retailing at around $170, it’s a similar price point, and the results are similar, although I’d say the T3 works more quickly at a lower heating setting than the BaByliss. That being said, the thin, lightweight nature of the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron means I’ll likely be incorporating it into my straightening routine going forward, especially to target those annoying small patches near my ears that can be so hard to straighten.

Final Verdict

Is this the most inexpensive hair straightener on the market? No, but the BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron will quickly deliver the results you want—smooth, straight, and soft hair—without too much damage.
