Hispanic Heritage Month is a great opportunity to teach our students about Hispanic culture and customs. As part of these celebrations, students have learned about the famous painter Frida Kahlo, created their own flower crowns, and danced to traditional Mexican music. Puppets are also a fantastic way to introduce preschoolers to diverse cultures. Through storytelling and songs, they help children explore different traditions, languages, and customs, fostering empathy and understanding from an early age.#HispanicHeritageMonth #HispanicCulture #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Preschool

We've seen the pitfalls the entertainment industry has set for our children. The media often pushes an agenda that is not glorifying to God, teaching us that the ultimate goal is fame and glory - that these belong to us because we are the reason for our giftings and talents and that man should be worshiped. But God is the only One who deserves worship. That's the beauty of an education at CLA. Students learn that "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made" (John 1:3) and that the fine and performing arts don't have to follow the standard of the world. They learn that they are made in the image of God - that they create because he created. They learn to use their giftings and talents to glorify God, because he is the reason we have them. They also learn that they have purpose in those giftings and talents, and what they create can be beautiful because God is the source of our inspiration - that He receives glory when we use these talents for Him. Our students have many opportunities to demonstrate this. Some of these opportunities include:- Chapel Band- Lower School and Upper School Musicals- Talent Shows- Dramas, Plays, Skits, and Presentations- Video Production- Creative Writing and Poetry- Art Contests- Skit creation (in multiple languages including Latin and Spanish)- K-12 Choir Concerts and Performances- Small EnsemblesAnd we're always expanding into new areas, because we have the freedom and flexibility to explore things that encourage student giftings. These opportunities are more accessible than you think! We would love to have you come and take a tour to see for yourself how a quality classical Christian education can benefit your family. To schedule a tour, simply call 423-649-0040 or you can email info@clak12.org.Enrollment for the '24-'25 school year opens soon!#classicaleducation #christianeducation #christslegacyacademy #thinkagain #youcangettherefromhere #livingthelegacy

As an African-American choir director, the call and response tradition has been the heartbeat of my musical and spiritual upbringing. 🙏🏾 This practice isn’t just a theory of music - it’s a profound theory of relationship that reinforces the immense value of human connection. 👥To truly engage in this vital call and response process, we must be willing to be vulnerable, putting our authentic selves out there for the group. 💗 But it’s a two-way street - the real power comes when we actively listen and creatively incorporate the feedback, allowing it to shape us in the moment. 👂🏾This openness doesn’t just make us better musicians or speakers, it draws us into deeper, more meaningful bonds with our community. 🕊️ Embracing the vulnerability and active listening of call and response is how we build the sustaining, empowering connections that have uplifted the Black church for generations. 🙌🏾Who’s ready to raise their voice and respond? mic drop🎤 #TedTalk #tedxtalks #CommunityBuilding #vulnerabilityisstrength #ActiveListening #whatcommunitysoundslike #blackchurch #ourstoryisone

I have a playlist problem. Is the bias just my own, or Spotify’s algorithm?I looked back at one of my old playlists that I use to soothe and destress myself and realized that it was 100% white. The pastiest playlist ever. I curated it from my own ideas plus Spotify suggestions. I am realizing how much of my musical taste has been shaped by algorithms and suggested songs that can’t seem to parse musical styles made by people of color.I put in the slow, soothing ballad “Baby Can I Hold You” by Tracy Chapman, and the next song that Spotify suggested was 1980’s super upbeat pop hit “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by The Police. Say what???I had played it recently, but it had nothing to do with the genre that I wanted to listen to right now. When I put in “Coming Home” by Leon Bridges, it gave me “Signed, Sealed Delivered” by Stevie Wonder. At least it gave me another Black artist, but totally wrong vibe for a mellow mood. So I tried a black artist closer to my usual musical mood. “How Will I Know” by Whitney Houston. Spotify gave me back “Boogie Shoes” by KC And The Sunshine Band. Seriously? If I put in a White Female Singer-Songwriter, Spotify has no problem suggesting similar songs by other white female singer-songwriters, including tracks and artists that I have never heard. So Spotify, “Try Again”. (By Aaliyah. Spotify did better with that one, gave me “All My Life” by K-Ci & JoJo. and then gave me a bunch of 1990s hip hop. Finally a win!)This was a really great wake up call that I need to put more intentional effort into subverting the suggestions that steer me toward my musical comfort zone that is has been curated by bias from the start. I’m going to start with this glorious Black History Month playlist curated by anthony662-us, and see if I can’t bring some more color into my liked songs and see if that helps the algorithm. Are you noticing a palette of sameness in your own listening, too? What are you doing to shake up the voices that move your world? https://lnkd.in/gi7ua5FS

Key to the ongoing conversations about Latino representation in the U.S. entertainment industry is the need for the diversification of stories, which in turn would breed valuable specificity. Rather than expecting one production to speak strongly to every single subset of the vast Latino community, projects should reflect the unique microcosms and experiences that speak to groups such as Cuban Americans in Florida, Mexican Americans in Los Angeles, or Dominican Americans in New York City.
